How to use the kit
1. The brass brush is a great tool with a raised handle, making it easier to use when working around typewriter slugs, keys and the segment. It is non-scratch for typewriter segment which is perfect for deep cleaning. It is best to use mineral spirits with the brush to remove old ink. (Caution, always use protection when working with chemicals).
2. The bamboo brush is great for dusting, cleaning keys and type slugs and general cleaning purposes.
3. The cotton sticks are great for cleaning harder to reach area, but be careful around pivots as the cotton can strip and leave small threads.
4. The microfiber cloth is great for cleaning, polishing or using it as padding when cleaning segment so no mineral spirits/liquid reaches your typewriter inside mechanism
5. New nylon ink ribbon for a clean and fresh imprint (good for about 100+ pages). The ribbon is 13mm wide (1/2 inch) and will fit most mechanical typewriters.
6. Small oiler with a very precise needle tip for oiling. Use very lightly, and only when needed! I do not recommend oiling. A clean typewriter will mostly not need oil or need oil very scarcely on pivots where metal parts touch, thus it can be essential if used lightly and properly. The oil prevents rust and does not gum.
7. Never work with alcohol/cleaning products without using gloves for protection.
The size of the pouch when closed is 21x9x4cm. Perfect for all essential typewriter cleaning tasks such as cleaning off dust, oiling, polishing, cleaning old, sticky ink and build-up residue from typebars.
I highly recommend using this product to get the best out of your typewriter (print). If you want to know if the ribbon will fit your typewriter - measure the width of the old ribbon, it must be about 13mm wide (1/2inch). Choose preferred color using the options. If your typewriter types in black only, choose a black ribbon, this way you can use both sides of the ribbon and get twice as much life out of the ribbon.
